Alkagesta said its steel trading arm, Alkavex, held business development meetings in Tangshan and Tianjin, China, during visits dated 12–15 October 2026. In a company press release, Alkagesta described the engagements as part of its continuing commercial development work in China, where the venture primarily sources the steel products that form its initial trading focus.

Bayram Bayramli, China Business Developer at Alkagesta, led the programme. According to the release, the meetings involved steel manufacturers, trading businesses, processing companies and industry representatives, including associations. Alkagesta said the engagements offered a direct view of production capacity, supply-chain infrastructure and opportunities for international trade across the two cities, rather than focusing on a single supplier or facility.

The company characterised Tangshan and Tianjin as a major Chinese corridor for steel production and exports. It said the visits strengthened commercial relationships supporting Alkavex’s regional sourcing and trading operations. These assessments are Alkagesta’s own account of the programme; the release did not identify individual counterparties or provide details of any resulting supply agreements, purchase volumes or transaction values.

Alkavex is based in Malta and is a joint venture between Alkagesta and French steel trading company Navex SAS. Alkagesta holds the majority stake, according to the announcement. The venture’s initial product scope covers both semi-finished and finished steel, with China identified as its principal sourcing market. The release did not give a more detailed breakdown of the products discussed during the visits.

On the customer side, Alkagesta said Alkavex serves markets in West and East Africa. The company described the venture’s offering as bringing together market knowledge, logistics and trade finance to address what it called growing demand from construction, manufacturing and infrastructure development. The China meetings were presented as relationship-building activity underpinning that sourcing and trading business.
